The department of Oral Anatomy and Physiology/Temporomandibular Joint Disease (TMD) Clinic in Fourth Military Medical University, is an integrated discipline involving teaching, clinical work, and scientific research. As a national key discipline unit, our course——Oral Anatomy and Physiology, is national excellent course. Furthermore, our department is the chief-editor unit of two national textbook——Oral Anatomy and Physiology/ Plaster Teeth Carving Course. Professor Meiqing Wang is vice president of Chinese Society of TMD & Occlusion, Chinese Stomatology Association (CSA).
In teaching field, our department teaches three courses——Oral Anatomy and Physiology/ Plaster Teeth Carving Course/Occlusion, for 5-year/8-year undergraduate and graduate dental students. Professor Meiqing Wang is the chief-editor unit of two national textbook——Oral Anatomy and Physiology/ Plaster Teeth Carving Course. In addition, our department is one of the pioneer units carrying out occlusion research and teaching in China.
In clinical field, our TMD clinic is the earliest clinic in this field in China. Up to now, more than 15,000 patients with TMD, bruxism, occlusal disease and cervical vertebra disease, have been treated in our clinic, and all the electrical case records have been established. Based on our abundant clinical experience, one serial treatment system focusing on occlusion has been established.
In scientific research field, our department is obedient to this idea “finding questions in clinic, interpreting and answering questions in research, and then using the results in clinic and teaching”. In the past, focusing on the relationship between occlusion and TMD & orofacial pain, our department has carried out serial research work involving clinical research, mathematics modeling, animal experiment and cell experiment. In the past several years, funded by 11 NSFC projects and 5 province projects, our department has published more than 40 articles in SCI journals, and also communicated in several international conferences. Furthermore, we have established close cooperation relationship with related professional persons in USA, Japan, Denmark and Finland.
Today, all the staff in our department has high education background and international view. They all love the teaching, treatment and research work in this field. Now, they are serving students and patients with advanced teaching, treatment and research idea
